Far different from the mountainous volcanic formed BVI’s, Anegada is comprised of coral and limestone - at its highest point it’s only 28 feet above sea level. It’s 11miles long and edged with white sand beaches and the second largest reef in the world (next to the Great Barrier). The Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean on its North coast.
We were required (as per our charter agreement) to hire a captain to sail us there due to the extensive reef and coral. We booked the time and date and were anxious to meet the captain who would take us to this little sliver of paradise.
On Wednesday morning we welcomed aboard Captains Boots & Elle, who are also mechanics for several Charter Companies, so we knew we were in good hands. They sailed us and shared stories about their families, their homelands, the BVI’s and so much more. We had the most incredible time with these fine gentlemen. We were all captivated.
While under sail we set up the fishing lines and were utterly elated (no exaggeration) when we caught a Bar Jack! Lunch would be served upon arrival. Under their guidance we filleted and grilled up this beauty. I rummaged through the pantry and baked brownies & sweet potatoes to accompany the fish. It was phenomenal. From the ocean to our plates within a few hours – talk about FRESH!
Spending time with them was a definite highlight for us!
